Are there any dog breeds that Oregon Tails will not accept?

  • No

How do you decide which dogs can become a Pack Member? 

  • Once we have received your application, we will set up a time for you and your dog(s) to come to the Dog Ranch for an initial assessment to gather information about your dogs listening skills and overall disposition walking on-leash & off-leash in one of our fenced pastures and around other dogs and distractions. 

My dog doesn’t have all of his shots yet, can he still be a Pack Member? 

  • No. all dogs must have a full cycle of necessary vaccinations required by the state / Multnomah County.

Can I tour the Oregon Tails Ranch before we become Oregon Tails Pack member?

  • Yes. We frequently have potential new Pack members come visit the Dog Ranch. Please fill out a request form and we will set up a time to meet you to show you around. 

What if my dog doesn’t get along with other dogs?

  • We often give assessments for those human companions who have dogs that tend to show reactivity around other dogs. Filling out an application will give us the necessary information of your dog’s behavior previous and current routine and from there we can discuss options and more likely than not, request to meet in person to make a final decision. 

How old does my dog have to be to be an Oregon Tails Pack member?

  • We encourage anyone who has a dog to get them enrolled as soon as they have all of the necessary State and Multnomah County vaccinations and are cleared by a vet. 

What is your cancellation policy?

What if my dog is not spayed or neutered? 

  • Our team and Pack is well versed in handling and accommodating those dogs that may still be intact. Please fill out an application and from there we can figure out a path forward.

Where exactly does Oregon Tails take my dog every day? 

  • The Oregon Tails Dog Ranch. Located in Scappoose, OR just 23mi North of Portland

Can my dogs stay together? 

  • If you have two or more dogs, please fill out an application and from there we can discuss what we feel is best for your dog's growth and our capacity to help accommodate your expectations. 

What will the first day at the Oregon Tails Dog Ranch be like for my dog? 

  • One of our team will pick your dog up at an agreed upon location. From there they will travel with one of our Pack leaders and Packs, to our property. From there they will relieve themselves and stretch their legs / warm up for the day ahead. Depending on your dog's current state of mind / energy / behavior, they may be taken through a series of drills to help get them focused and quite enough mentally to ensure a skid rapport with their Pack leader and other Pack members. Once this is completed, they will head out for a 2-4mi run (depending on dog's physical capabilities, confidence and weather. Your dog(s) will then join a specific Pack that will head out for 

My dog takes medication. Are you able to give it to them? 

  • Yes. 

Can you care for dogs that are ill or have special medical needs?

  • We have and do on occasion accommodate dogs that have medical concerns. Please disclose any special needs upon filling out an application.

 

How do you determine which dogs will well together? 

  • Our team assesses all dogs prior to joining and will be able to determine their energy and behavioral fit within our Pack. That being said, we work to help all dogs learn to co-exist and function as one unit. Time and attention to each dogs needs is part of our daily routine. 

My dog is a bolter, do you have a way to keep him secure?

  • We work with all dogs on-leash to establish a solid working relationship and bond. Until our training / listening requirements are met with each dog, they are kept on-leash. We also give tips to help you build a better rapport at home with your dog to help speed up the process of them learning to stay with the Pack. 

How many participants attend camp at one time?

  • We are limited to 6-12 dogs per Pack leader. 

What makes Oregon Tails different from other programs? 

  • What makes Oregon Tails different than other services is that we build in training reinforcement, and have a team of handlers that are well versed in helping dogs overcome their insecurities and fears , have fun and learn to enjoy life as a dog all amidst a private 1000+ acre facility.

  • Dogs are not elephants, but they will most definitely not forget you. 

Will my dog’s personality change during training with Oregon Tails? 

  • This all depends on the behavior. A lot of dogs mature, become less anxious, more fulfilled and content in their own skin, around other dogs and learn to enjoy more. If change does occur, it will most likely be towards the positive as opposed to negative side.

Which Pack Leader will be working with my dog?

  • Pack leaders are determined by each dog's temperament. Depending on such, your dog will be placed in a Pack where we feel he/she will thrive in. All placements are discussed with you beforehand. 

How does Oregon Tails decide which Pack Leader each dog ends up with?

  • We place dogs in Packs based on their overall disposition, energy levels and listening skills. Upon being accepted, we will communicate which Pack your dog will be placed in and why and come up with a road map to ensure their growth and development
